Does your payslip actually add up?

Enter your contract, then the figures printed on your slip. Everything is computed on this device — nothing is sent anywhere.

Install Pay Audit on this device It opens from your home screen, works with no signal, and your payslips stay exactly where they are.

Your payslip is read inside this page and never uploaded. Your name and NI number are ignored. The assignment number is read only to tell separate posts apart — bank work from your substantive job — and never leaves this page.

These stay on this device until you delete them, so you don't have to upload again next time. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Licence

Checking one payslip is free, always and without an account. A licence opens the rest.

Year position

Where each tax year actually finished, or stands so far. This is the number that decides whether you are owed anything. Tax years run 6 April to 5 April, so twelve calendar months of payslips will always cover two of them.

Your contract

What you were promised, held against the national terms and against what you were actually paid. A payslip can be arithmetically perfect and still pay the wrong figure.

Where you should be on the scale

A pay scale code advances one step on each anniversary of the date you joined the grade. Tell it where you started and when, and it works out where that puts you today.

The effective date is the day your NHS service counts from, including any earlier experience you were credited with — give that on its own and the pay scale code follows from it. Your contract fills these in if it states them.

P60 check

A payslip is a moment; a P60 is the whole year, and it only exists once that year has closed. Where you hold both, they have to agree — and if they don't, the P60 is what HMRC was given.

1 · Your contract

Banded pay shows a "Band" line on the payslip. Nodal-point pay doesn't.

The figure on the line marked SAL/WAGE.

Paid on top of basic, and not pensionable.

Hours above 40 are additional rostered hours.

Paid at 37% above your basic hourly rate.

GP registrar enhancement, academic, hard-to-fill.

10 PAs is whole-time. Extras are paid at 10% of basic each.

Weekend allowance, local clinical excellence awards, recruitment premiums.

1 = full time. Part time is your share of it — 0.6 means 60%, which is six programmed activities or about 24 hours a week.

London weighting or fringe, recruitment and retention premium — anything your slip counts as "pensionable pay".

2 · Tax, pension and loans

Second job? Enter your bank or locally employed post separately, with its own tax code — a BR or D0 code taxes every pound at one rate, which is where most doctors quietly overpay.

3 · What your payslip says

These three are the ones that matter. PAYE is cumulative, so a single month tells you almost nothing on its own — the year-to-date figures are what prove your tax is right.

Leave any box empty to skip that line. This is where the camera scan will fill in for you.

Two different problems, two different recipients. A wrong pay figure is payroll's; a wrong tax code is HMRC's.
