What this app is, and what it isn't

Please read this before you send anything to payroll or to HMRC on the strength of it.

Who we are

Not connected to anyone official

Pay Audit is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the National Health Service, NHS England, NHS Employers, the NHS Business Services Authority, the Electronic Staff Record, HM Revenue & Customs, the British Medical Association or any NHS trust or health board. References to those bodies and to their published documents are descriptive only.

What it does

It reads the figures on your payslips and compares them with what the published pay circulars, HMRC rates and NHS Pension tiers say they ought to be. Where it can prove something it says so; where it cannot it says that instead, and it is designed to leave a gap rather than fill it with a number it cannot stand behind.

Where it can be wrong

• Reading. A PDF from ESR is read exactly. A photo or a scan is recognised, and recognition makes mistakes — a figure can come out wrong rather than missing. The app checks each payslip against itself and flags any that do not add up, but this is not a guarantee.
• Coverage. England only. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have different tax bands, pension tiers and pay scales and are not supported. Some tax years are held only in part, and the app names what it does not hold.
• Your circumstances. Benefits in kind, salary sacrifice, multiple pension schemes, annual allowance charges, Scottish or Welsh tax status, and mid-year changes of code or contract can all move the answer. The app does not know about them unless it can see them on a payslip.
• Reference data. It is taken from published sources and kept current on a best-efforts basis. Sources are cited in the app so you can check them yourself, and you should, before acting on anything material.

Before you act on it

If the app suggests you are owed money or owe it, treat that as a prompt to look, not as a conclusion. Check the figures against your payslips, and take professional advice for anything that matters. Any correspondence you send to your payroll department or to HMRC is yours, and you are responsible for its accuracy.

Licence

A subscription grants one person a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app. Do not share access, resell it, or use it to provide a service to other people without written permission. You may cancel at any time and the licence runs to the end of the paid period.

Liability

The app is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from its use — including tax underpaid or overpaid, interest, penalties, or time spent on a claim that comes to nothing. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you have paid in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here removes your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or any other right that cannot lawfully be excluded, and nothing limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Changes and ending

These terms may change; the date below moves when they do. We may withdraw the service, and if we withdraw it during a paid period we will refund the unused part.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
